I think it’s 2. To this woman, this guy was her “seishun no hikari” (“light of youth”) — she needs to believe that there could be no substitute to the time she spent with him. She’d hate it if the guy just went, “whatever, that’s how I treat all my girlfriends.” Though unfortunately, it does feel like that is how he sees her.
