I just found myself thinking how it makes me happy to see all the respect threads about my lyrics. For me personally, I’m happy with how the lyrics of “Zettai Tokeru Mondai” turned out, for example. But I guess that’s not quite the kind of thing that people are looking for in threads like that.

You can tell what kind of a stance a songwriter has towards writing lyrics. If they’re only thinking about making a hit, they can just randomly throw some words together in a way that looks cool. But if Tsunku was doing that, there wouldn’t be anywhere near this much wordplay in his lyrics. I get that feeling so often with his songs.

Tsunku’s lyrics feature a lot of power words. With other idols, it’s easy to make good parodies of their songs. But with Tsunku’s songs, since there are so many of those power words in his lyrics, the parody version will always sound underwhelming.

But his lyrics are great, too. You’d think he would prioritize the rhythm and just line up some words that fit, but every now and then there are these phrases that just catch you off-guard. His powers of observation and empathy are so ahead of the curve that he can probably identify fully with the person he’s writing about, and the cast of characters that appear in his lyrics are so real that it feels like they’re actual people.
