Then I bought two copies of Ai no Joke at a handshake event — one for me and one for a friend who came with me. I’m not an anti or anything, but I do think Dentsu had a big hand in this. I’m not saying they did anything like cheating by buying loads of copies or anything like that, but their way of doing the “Reborn Morning Musume” campaign was really systematic. They had an eye-catching way of making the headlines in magazines or newspapers, stuff like “the Morning Musume of now is HOT!” or “their new big break!?“, then finally they made doubly sure with the Music Station appearance. It’s the advertising firms who create trends after all.

I’m sure probably half of you listen to Young Town anyway, but let me just say this. Even during the Eclipse Era, Sanma was both stern as he was kind towards Michishige and other H!P members, and he never praised AKB on the show. Even when AKB were busy releasing consecutive million-selling hits, he was still referring to Morning Musume as the top idols, and he meant it. “Why aren’t you appearing on Kouhaku? Your ability is top class. You have to go show ’em what you’ve got!“

After becoming a fan in 2001, there was always at least one member I was not terribly fond of, but I agree that this line up is entirely likable. I am so happy for the girls and hope this sense of accomplishment pushes their comeback even further.

I know how you feel. I was kinda neutral to Riho too but she’s actually pretty charming and sweet. I kinda wish she would play up her natural smug smile into just a full on playfully arrogant character and then let her doofiness soften it out. “Ah~ It’s easy because I’m the best–” *stumble trips half over a chair* in the same way that Sayu played up her narcissist side… but that’s really because she’s only a half-shade away from being a perfect idol.

And as for Morinaga Confectionery, they don’t know. There’s speculation it might mean there’s a tie-up CM forthcoming.
Dentsu is Japan’s largest ad firm, and one of the world’s biggest.
As many n.1s, they fell into complacency, but recently got their act together back. They’ve managed to turn 2 former losers – Prime Minister Abe and Momusu – into winners! That’s no underachievement.
