Rather than allowing photos or such, they need to put H!P music on streaming services…
I want to listen to all those old songs and have others listen to them, too…
Most artists already do this.
Allowing people to listen to the music for free wouldn’t profit the company.
As an idol agency, it must be pretty low on their list of priorities.
On the contrary, with such a huge catalog of old songs, Up-Front should definitely do this.
Not for free, but for a fixed amount. It’s not a huge amount of money, but the company would get paid depending on the plays they get, so it definitely wouldn’t be a minus for them. And above all else, it would be a gateway for people who are curious. Not allowing streaming services is like keeping that gateway closed.
This is even going a bit viral on Twitter. The people who don’t care just don’t care, but there are lots of wota who aren’t interested in handshake events, and wota who just want to listen to the old songs.
I want them to join Spotify or Apple. I’d be willing to pay for one of those services, but I haven’t taken the plunge yet simply because H!P isn’t on there.
Streaming services… So there’d be like a monthly payment?
There are free streaming services too, such as Spotify.
But then would they sell any more CD’s if they were on a streaming service?
Most CD’s that are going to be sold in the future are basically just handshake tickets, and I don’t think there are that many new fans who are interested in collecting the huge amount of past CD’s.
I don’t believe there would be much of a demerit for the company if they were to put their music on a streaming service. Although, seeing as there are some other groups who don’t do it either, I guess there might be and it’s something that I’m just not seeing…?
Would they get paid royalties for each play?
Yes, you get paid for each play.
It’s around 0.5 to 1 yen for one play.
Nowadays when they perform old songs in concerts, many people don’t even know them so they don’t get excited at all upon hearing them. Streaming services have become essential for H!P.
I want them to be on a streaming service, too, but it’s not something that would make them money. I wish they would at least put the old songs on there, but maybe they can’t do that…
Not putting their music on a streaming service?
Even though 90% of all artists are already doing so?
I’ll just check out a song on YouTube if I’m curious to hear it.
I don’t believe there to be much merit in it for the company.
Well, for me, if I’m curious about a song I’ll look it up on a streaming service.
If the song is not on there, then it’s game over.
Streaming services wouldn’t profit them so there’s no way this money-hungry company is going to do it.
I don’t need them on a music streaming service, but I would pay good money to be able to watch all the past DVD Magazines and birthday events.
Don’t need it.
I already have CD’s of everything I want to listen to.
Someone saying he has all the CD’s so he doesn’t need the streaming service… There’s a limit to how many CD’s one can buy, whereas it would be easy to simply generate more plays for them. I own the CD’s, too, but I still listen to music mostly on Spotify and stuff. Because Meimei and Kikka are on there.
There’s more and more people who won’t listen to an artist if they’re not on the streaming services, and even the people who don’t usually listen to idols might come across one of their songs if they’re listening on shuffle. When that happens, there’s even the added merit that they might be invited back to ROCK IN JAPAN and stuff. And now with so many groups, even some H!P wota can’t keep up and listen to all of the songs, instead listening only to the ones from their favorite group. This would make it easier for them to listen to all the songs.
You’ll often see foreign fans in the YouTube comments begging them to put their music on Spotify. They really should follow Arashi’s example and just do it.
It makes no sense for her to bring the topic of allowing photos into this. Moreover, she and Mano should apologize for making all that fuss about how it’s supposedly bad to allow taking photos when there ended up being no issues whatsoever. She could have just privately voiced her concerns to someone at the office, but instead she chose to take the route of pandering to the wota on Twitter and enjoying all the positive replies and retweets.
It’s related in the sense that both things are something that other idols and artists have started doing. The reason there wasn’t a problem with the photo-taking was because it turned out there weren’t that many fans who were even interested in doing so, meaning that it’s now proven that there was no demand for it in the first place. Hardly anyone has been talking about it after the first day it was allowed, so wouldn’t you say this service was actually unneeded?
Up until now, all the concerts where it has been allowed have been broadcast on TV or online, but in the future when they allow it in concerts that aren’t broadcast anywhere, there might be people who will record or take videos. Up until this point, yes, Mano’s and Fukuda’s fears have been unfounded. But it’s definitely possible that this will cause problems in the future, so there’s no need for them to apologize.
I really want them to do this. Sure, I have the CD’s, but that’s because I’m a wota. I still want to make my own playlists without any limitations. And what with the handshakes, would the CD sales even suffer that much? Also, I can’t be the only one who thinks that by increasing the point of contact, it might lead to them being invited to do more concerts like ROCK IN JAPAN…
I don’t use Spotify so I can’t speak from experience, but over in America most Up-Front songs, including H!P, are on Apple Music. So the office can’t seem to make up its mind about this.
That Apple Music thing overseas is definitely not done by Up-Front, but someone who is doing it completely without their permission. The shitty office needs to hurry up and do something about it! That’s what I’ve heard anyway… But it wouldn’t surprise me, knowing this shitty office. Scary stuff.
Longtime wota already know how this office is slow to act on things like this. They might do it if a streaming service actually approaches them and begs them to join — that’s how highly-esteemed this office thinks H!P continues to be.
Airi and Moritaka have been added to streaming services, so it’s not like they’re completely against the idea. The office must have their reasons. Johnny’s, Yonezu, and B’z aren’t doing it either, so that means there must not be that big of an incentive in it for them. Arashi alone joined up, but they’re ceasing their activities next year.
Johnny’s has a famously bad reputation for being so hostile towards the internet.
You don’t want to follow their example.
Johnny’s, Yonezu, and B’z, sure. But it’s big news how just in the past month Pink Lady, Southern All-Stars, and L’Arc~en~Ciel have all joined streaming services. So it’s not a fair comparison.
H!P doesn’t even get invited on music shows anymore. Even if they did join the streaming services, no one but the H!P wota would listen to their songs.
People could come across their songs when listening on random.
From a listener’s viewpoint? Sure, it’s cheap and easy. But from the seller’s viewpoint? I’m not so sure. If putting your music on streaming services was the key to success, no one in the entire idol business would be struggling.
The wota being so damn critical about everything is why the office is stagnating like this.
No matter how critical the wota may be, the office keeps doing exactly what it wants (Cool Hello, having concurrent members, etc.) It’s kind of pointless making this one thing seem like it’s the wota’s fault.
I’m sitting here thinking, “just buy the damn CD’s.”
But then I guess nowadays most people don’t even own a CD player…
It’s 2019, grandpa!
Airi has been added to streaming services, so H!P will probably follow suit sooner or later.
Not that there are any signs of it yet though…
No matter how you look at it, they ought to join up.
