  1. As an “ugly” woman, I’m gonna take this as an okay for some of my questionable make-up choices. xD

Some of this reads as a bit of a silly personal essay. Like his thoughts on ganguro. It doesn’t seem like he ever asked a ganguro girl about her choices, but is just making assumptions. Still, it generally seems he means well, lol.

    • Show us your picture and we’ll help you become Tsunku-cool.

Er… Thank you so much for translating this book, Henkka! I’m already loving it. Tsunku is such a great no-bullshit writer, and your translations always sound really natural and they are so easy to read!

      Keep up the great work.

    • He may not have thought thoroughly about his position specifically on ganguro fashion, but I appreciated that he laid out those opinions clearly, followed them up with acknowledgement for the girls themselves having their own valid reasons for liking and doing what they do, and then concluded with a level of self-awareness that allowed him to realize that despite those opinions he’d be a hypocrite to go around laying final judgements on issues of style.

      • Right. What you said is exactly what I liked about this article. Does every thought expressed today have to be 100% correct and undisprovable, with every possible argument against it considered before it’s even uttered? Can’t you just say what’s on your mind every once in a while even if you realize it’s not perfect, ESPECIALLY if you’re like Tsunku and you’re not being a dick about it? Maybe this article IS just a silly essay like shirenu said… it’s hardly a damn master’s thesis or anything. But I also doubt that any ganguro girl who read it would be offended by reading it. They might not agree with any of it, but at least Tsunku clearly explains his reasons for thinking why he does and he is very respectable towards even the ganguro girls he talks about here, even if he’s not a fan of the style himself.

I just want to read some honest, gut feeling type stuff like this article every now and then.

  2. I might be average but hell, I like saying I’m beautiful! Hahahahaha. Am I doing alright, Tsunku?

  3. Reminds me of Reina Tanaka. She’s cute, obviously, but her fashion is out of date. Yet, she simply doesn’t care and charges forward with that fashion. It works well for her.

  4. What? Tsunku took part in making the choreography of Love Machine? Or… I’m not sure if I understood that LOL. But I never thought that choreography was silly or anything, I like it and I’ve danced to it feeling that it was a cool and fun choreography. Just like Yuke Yuke Monkey Dance ;) Dunno if this is Tsunku-coolness being on effect lol.

I wasn’t sure about what to expect when I clicked this, but I liked a lot of the things that Tsunku said. I too think that every person, no matter if they’re beautiful/pretty/cute/average or just plain ugly, can become nice to look at depending on their attitude about it. It’s just a matter of finding our own style without overdoing it. In that sense, everyone is capable of becoming beautiful/attractive, because it’s no longer a matter of physical beauty but a matter of what kind of feelings you have inside your heart, and that’s great :)

  5. will the ratio of ugly grills in H!P go down , now that tsunkuman is semi-retired?

i can’t imagine it will , since nippon girls are pretty ugly, and i doubt they will recruit gaijins again.

  6. This was such an interesting read. Thanks so much for translating it. I have been a fan of MM since 2002 and just until reading this article, I realize the idea behind many ‘concepts’ in H!P groups. Tsunku is such an interesting person, I would love to read more stuff like this from him.
